NHPC signs MoU with NSDF and SAI to empower young talented weightlifters

Under this initiative, NHPC will support the identification and training of promising young weightlifters between the ages of 9 and 13 from across 30 States and Union Territories

New Delhi: NHPC Limited, India’s premier hydropower company under the Ministry of Power, has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to launch a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative titled “Shakti Saadhana – Empowering Weightlifters for Sporting Brilliance.”

The MoU was signed on Monday, at the SAI headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of NHPC Director (Personnel) Uttam Lal. The agreement has been executed by NHPC Head of CSR & SD Division Miren Kumar Verma; NSDF's Under Secretary Kamkhan Singh and SAI CEO (TOPS) Col. NS Johal.

Under this initiative, NHPC will support the identification and training of promising young weightlifters between the ages of 9 and 13 from across 30 States and Union Territories. The programme aims to nurture grassroots talent by providing comprehensive residential training, access to professional coaching, physiotherapy support, and other necessary facilities to ensure holistic development.

Speaking on the occasion, NHPC reaffirmed its commitment to national development not just through energy generation, but also by promoting youth empowerment and sporting excellence under its CSR mandate.

The partnership marks a significant step towards strengthening India’s sports ecosystem by building capacity at the grassroots level and enabling young athletes to pursue excellence on national and international platforms.
