New Delhi: NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project (TTPS), a unit of India’s leading power utility NTPC Limited, successfully concluded the 2025 edition of its flagship community development initiative — the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) — with a grand cultural and valedictory ceremony on June 8.
The four-week residential programme, aimed at empowering underprivileged girls from rural areas, provided training and awareness to 40 girls from nearby villages. The initiative focused on holistic development by equipping participants with essential life skills, boosting their confidence, and broadening their horizons.
The concluding ceremony was held at NTPC Talcher Thermal and was attended by Executive Director and Head of Project Vijay Chand, as the Chief Guest. The President of Sagarika Ladies Club Vibha Agarwal also graced the occasion. NTPC officials, their family members, local sarpanches, parents, and community representatives participated in the celebration.
During the event, the girls demonstrated their learning through a series of cultural performances, including traditional dances, musical recitals, yoga and self-defence demonstrations, and personal reflections on their transformation. A key highlight was a powerful street play on gender equality, directed by FIZA Arts, which received a standing ovation.
Over the course of the programme, the girls received training in areas such as digital literacy, spoken English, art and craft, health and hygiene, child rights, and personality development. The mission is part of NTPC’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda to promote gender equality and inclusive community development.
Speaking on the occasion, Chand said, “At NTPC Talcher Thermal, we believe empowering girls at the grassroots is fundamental to community transformation. The energy, talent, and confidence displayed by these young participants is truly inspiring and reflects our commitment to inclusive growth and nation-building.”
Echoing the impact of the programme, a participant shared her ambition to become a teacher, stating that the experience gave her the confidence to speak on stage for the first time. Parents expressed gratitude to NTPC for providing their daughters with a platform for growth and self-expression.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates and emotional farewells, marking a new beginning for the young girls empowered by the initiative.
NTPC’s Girl Empowerment Mission continues to make a meaningful contribution to rural development by fostering education, skill-building, and confidence among young girls, thereby supporting India’s larger vision of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
