Rourkela Steel Plant Gives Rs 30 Lacs to Students

Financial Assistance to the tune of Rs 30 lakhs presented by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to students from peripheral villages under corporate social responsibility programme of the steel PSU

Rourkela: As a part of the CSR initiatives of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), 38 students pursuing professional courses and belonging to the scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and economically backward class of Sundargarh district, model steel villages and resettlements colonies of RSP were provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 30.00 lakhs.

A function was organised at the Institute of periphery development on August 26, in which Rajendra Misra, GM, HRD handed over the cheques to the students. M V Apparao, DGM, CSR, Munmun Mittra, AGM, CSR  and other officers and employees of the CSR department, parents and guardians of the students were present at the occasion.

Addressing the gathering GM Misra said "the purpose of RSP's CSR initiatives is to promote education amongst the students residing in peripheral areas.  I urge the students to make the best use of financial help and build a successful career to be able to contribute back to society".

Under the scheme, financial assistance worth Rs 30,000/- per year is being provided which translates into Rs 60,000/- for Post Graduate Courses of 2 years, Rs 1,20,000/- for graduate courses of 4 years like B.Tech and Rs 1,50,000/-  for 5 years MBBS course

The cheques were provided to the students of the batch 2016-17 and 2017-18. So far 128 students have been benefited from the scheme. Under the scheme, financial assistance worth Rs 30,000/- per year is being provided which translates into Rs 60,000/- for Post Graduate Courses of 2 years, Rs 1,20,000/- for graduate courses of 4 years like B.Tech and Rs 1,50,000/-  for 5 years MBBS course.

As per the scheme, every year 20 students (10 boys and 10 girls) pursuing graduate courses and 10 students (5 girls and 5 boys) pursuing PG courses for professional studies are selected. The selected students are given the scholarship amount in instalments every year on the basis of their yearly performance.
