New Delhi: Joining the list of various state-run companies who have pledged support to the PM CARES fund to aid the government in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Shipping PSUs, ports and their employees decided to jointly contribute Rs 59 crore to the fund on Monday.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Shipping said, "All Major Ports and Public Sector Undertakings under Ministry of Shipping have decided to contribute Rs 52 crore as CSR fund to 'Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund' (PM CARES Fund) which has been created to provide relief to Coronavirus ( COVID-19) pandemic affected people."
In addition, the employees of the all major ports and PSUs under the Ministry of Shipping have also come forward to donate a day's salary amounting to Rs 7 crore to the fund.
Leading the list of donors, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust pledged Rs 16.40 crore from its CSR funds to PM CARES fund. It was followed by Deendayal Port Trust and Paradip Port Trust who have decided to contribute Rs 8 crore each. Kamarjar Port Limited and New Mangalore Port Trust have announced a contribution of Rs 4 crore each, while VO Chidambarnar Port Trust has allocated Rs 2 crore from its CSR fund. Kolkata Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust and Vishakhapatnam Port Trust have decided to contribute Rs 1 crore each for the cause.
The total contribution from Indian ports to the PM CARES fund stands at Rs 46.69 crore.
As far as Shipping PSUs are concerned, CSL (Cochin Shipyard Ltd) has pledged a contribution of Rs 2.50 crore, followed by DGLL (Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships) and DCI (Dredging Corporation of India Limited) who have decided to contribute Rs 1 crore each. While SCI (Shipping Corporation of India) has decided to allocate Rs 37 lakh under CSR, IPRCL (Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Ltd) has pledged a support of Rs 50 lakh. SDCL (Sagarmala Development Company Ltd) has decided to allocate Rs 9 lakh under CSR.
