MS Dhoni, Anand Mahindra part of MoD committee formed to review NCC

Ministry of Defence has constituted a high-level 15-member expert committee that has Anand Mahindra, MS Dhoni and former MP Baijayant Panda as members for a comprehensive review of NCC

New Delhi: Ministry of Defence has constituted a High-Level Expert Committee, under the chairmanship of former Member of Parliament Baijayant Panda, for a comprehensive review of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in order to make it more relevant in changing times. Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra and former India captain MS Dhoni are the celebrity names on the committee.

"The Terms of Reference of the Committee, inter-alia, broadly provide for suggesting measures which can empower NCC cadets to contribute more effectively towards nation-building and national developmental efforts in various sectors; propose measures for gainful engagement of its Alumni for the betterment of the organisation as a whole and to study/recommend best practices of similar international youth organisations for inclusion in the NCC curriculum" Ministry said in an official statement issued Thursday.

Apart from the above-mentioned names, Member of Parliament Col. (Retd) Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, FinMin's Principal Economic Advisor Sanjeev Sanyal, Jamia Millia Islamia VC Prof. Najma Akhtar, SNDT Women's University former VC Prof. Vasudha Kamat, National Organizing Secretary of Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal Mukul Kanitkar, Maj. Gen. Alok Raj (Retd), DICCI Chairman Milind Kamble, SIS India Limited's MD Rituraj Sinha, Chief Operating Officer of Water.org Vedika Bhandarkar, Databook CEO Anand Shah will be the members of the NCC review committee. The Joint Secretary in the Department of Defence Mayank Tewari will be the Member Secretary of the committee. 

Mayank is an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer of the 1993 batch.

The NCC is the largest uniformed organisation that aims at developing character, discipline, a secular outlook and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. It also aims to create a pool of organised, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life.
