Under the agreement, BEL will supply the radars along with associated equipment and required infrastructure. The systems will be deployed to enhance the IAF’s operational readiness in mountainous terrains, significantly boosting the country’s air defence network.

The radars have been indigenously designed and developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a laboratory under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and will be manufactured by BEL.

The Ministry of Defence said that the induction of these systems will strengthen national security while also reducing dependence on foreign-origin defence equipment, in line with the government’s push for self-reliance in defence production.
