New Delhi: Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has been awarded the CareEdge-ESG 1 rating with an ESG score of 73.8 by CARE ESG Ratings Limited, a SEBI-registered issuer-pays ESG rating provider. With this, BEL has become the first company in the aerospace and defence sector to receive the highest category rating from CareEdge-ESG.
According to the company, the rating reflects BEL’s strong commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices. The PSU has demonstrated robust leadership in its ESG journey by effectively managing risks through best-in-class disclosures, policies, and performance indicators. BEL’s initiatives in water stewardship, emission control, waste management, human capital development, business ethics and responsible resource consumption have contributed significantly to its high score.
The company has also outperformed the industry median on several ESG parameters such as biodiversity conservation, energy efficiency, data privacy, ESG oversight, sustainability practices and community development. Its initiatives include efforts to reduce carbon emissions and support welfare programmes for employees and local communities.
ESG ratings play a crucial role in helping investors make informed decisions, as companies with strong ESG credentials often demonstrate better financial performance and greater success in attracting diverse investors and raising capital.
