New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Germany-based HENSOLDT Sensors GmbH to acquire design transfer, intellectual property rights (IPR), and manufacturing and repair capabilities for an advanced Obstacle Avoidance System (OAS) and Degraded Visual Environment (DVE) technology for helicopter platforms.

The agreement has been formalised at the ongoing Dubai Air Show 2025, where a contract was signed between Ravi Prakash, Executive Director (HAL–Korwa), and Eugen Maier, Head of Sales, Airborne Solutions, HENSOLDT. The signing ceremony was attended by senior leaders from both organisations, including Ravi K, Director (Operations), HAL, and Andleeb Shadman, Head of Business Development for HENSOLDT in the India region.

According to Dr DK Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of HAL, the partnership is expected to significantly strengthen India’s indigenous capabilities in developing critical helicopter safety technologies. “This partnership will augment the indigenous ecosystem for the development of technology for obstacle collision avoidance systems, including DVE systems in India. This agreement will ensure that India develops and owns a LiDAR-based helicopter Obstacle Avoidance System, an advanced capability that only a few countries have mastered,” he said.

Under the collaboration, HAL and HENSOLDT will work jointly on the design, manufacture, integration, and testing of the OAS and DVE systems, with the possibility of exporting these technologies in the future.

The partnership marks a major step in India’s push toward advanced aerospace technologies and global collaboration in defence manufacturing.
