Govt appoints Biju George as Director (Shipbuilding) in MDL

New Delhi: Biju George has been appointed as Director (Shipbuilding) in Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of Defence Production, for the appointment of George on the director level post in MDL on Tuesday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post for a period of five years with effect from the date of his assumption of the charge of the post, or till the date of superannuation, or until further orders whichever is the earlier. He is currently serving as General Manager in the same defence PSU.

George was recommended for the post of Director (Shipbuilding) of MDL on July 10. He was selected for the post from a list of seven candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. Out of seven candidates, four candidates were from MDL, two candidates from the Indian Navy and one candidate was from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), also a Defence PSU.

As Director (Shipbuilding) of MSDL, George will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He also will be responsible to ensure timely deliveries of all surface ships; maintaining high-quality standards and planning, directing and coordinating aII production and other activities related to shipbuilding.
