Govt promotes KP Purushothaman to the post of ADG in BRO

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the empanelment of Purushothaman KP for the promotion to the grade of Additional Director General in the Border Road Organisation (BRO)

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of KP Purushothaman for the promotion to the grade of Additional Director General (ADG) in the Border Road Organisation (BRO). According to an order from Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Purushothaman has been selected for the panel year 2020, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post and until further orders.

Profile of KP Purushothaman

Purushothaman is an Engineering Graduate (civil engineering) from Kannur, Kerala. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma and MBA in construction management. Currently, he is serving as Chief Engineer in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). He played a major role in the construction of the Atal Tunnel, the highest altitude tunnel in the world.

Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is a road construction executive force in India that provides support to and is a part of the Indian Armed Forces. BRO develops and maintains road networks in India's border areas and friendly neighbouring countries. This includes infrastructure operations in 19 states and three union territories (including Andaman and Nicobar Islands) and neighbouring countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Tajikistan and Sri Lanka. As of 2015, BRO had constructed about 50,000 kilometres (31,000 mi) of roads, over 400 permanent bridges with a total length of over 40,000 metres (25 mi) length and 19 airfields in strategic locations. BRO is also tasked with maintaining this infrastructure including operations such as snow clearance. BRO is instrumental in significantly upgrading and building new India-China Border Roads.
