New Delhi: In a significant milestone, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has successfully completed the Contractor Sea Trials (CSTs) for two warships being built for the Indian Navy. The trials were conducted simultaneously on March 3, reaffirming GRSE’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art platforms to the Indian maritime forces.

The two warships—Himgiri (Yard 3022) and Androth (Yard 3035)—are being developed under key naval projects. Himgiri, an advanced frigate, is the first of three warships being built under the Navy’s Project 17A, aimed at enhancing India’s blue-water capabilities. Androth, on the other hand, is the second in a series of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWCs) under construction at the shipyard, designed for coastal defense operations.

CSTs represent the final phase of a vessel’s construction, during which its seaworthiness, speed, maneuverability, and performance of onboard equipment are rigorously tested. Senior officials from GRSE, the Indian Navy, and classification societies were on board both warships to evaluate their operational readiness.

Additionally, the CST for INS Arnala (Yard 3029), the first ASW SWC built under this program, was recently concluded successfully, and the vessel is expected to be handed over to the Navy soon.
