New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) has delivered "Amini", the fifth of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) being built by the defence shipyard for the Indian Navy.
The warship was formally accepted by Rear Admiral Gautam Marwaha, VSM, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), Headquarters Eastern Naval Command, on Thursday.
With this delivery, Amini becomes the 119th warship built by GRSE and the 81st warship delivered to the Indian Navy, marking another milestone in the shipyard's naval shipbuilding programme.
The delivery follows GRSE's achievement on March 30, when it handed over three naval platforms — Dunagiri, Sanshodhak and Agray — to the Indian Navy on the same day. The latest delivery further demonstrates the shipyard's capacity to execute multiple complex warship-building projects and maintain delivery schedules.
Designed for operations in coastal waters, Amini is equipped to undertake sub-surface surveillance, search and attack missions, and coordinated anti-submarine warfare operations with aircraft. The vessel features an advanced Combat Management System, lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine warfare rockets, enabling it to detect, track and engage underwater threats.
Measuring approximately 77.6 metres in length, the warship is powered by marine diesel engines coupled with waterjets, providing enhanced manoeuvrability in shallow waters. Its draught of around 2.7 metres makes it suitable for littoral operations, including missions to detect and neutralise underwater threats in coastal areas.
The ASW-SWC programme also reflects GRSE's focus on indigenous defence manufacturing, with the vessels incorporating approximately 88% indigenous content. Amini is equipped with a 30mm Naval Surface Gun manufactured by GRSE, highlighting the shipyard's role in developing and integrating domestic defence technologies.
GRSE is currently building 13 frontline naval platforms, including one Project 17A Advanced Stealth Frigate, three ASW-SWCs, four Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and five Next Generation Corvettes.
In addition, the shipyard is constructing 36 other vessels, including 13 export platforms. The substantial order book positions GRSE as a key contributor to India's naval modernisation, maritime security and indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.
