The order marks another addition to GRSE's green vessel portfolio and strengthens its presence in the commercial shipbuilding segment alongside its defence business.

The proposed vessel will be 25 metres long with a beam of 8 metres and will be powered by battery-based propulsion. The tug is designed to generate a static ahead bollard pull of 15 tonnes and will be deployed for harbour assistance and towing operations.

According to the company, the electric tug will have an endurance of two hours of continuous operation and a maximum speed of 9 knots.

The vessel will be built in accordance with International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) standards and will incorporate battery-propulsion technology aimed at reducing emissions and supporting cleaner port operations.

The project aligns with the maritime sector's increasing focus on decarbonisation and the adoption of environmentally sustainable technologies.

GRSE has previously delivered a fully electric, zero-emission ferry to the Government of West Bengal and is currently constructing 13 hybrid ferries for the state government. The shipyard is also executing an order for 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German company, of which four vessels will be equipped with green propulsion systems.

The shipyard continues to diversify its order book by expanding into green and commercial shipbuilding segments while leveraging its in-house design capabilities and shipbuilding infrastructure.
