GRSE to develop indigenous high-tech naval navigation systems

GRSE has signed an MoU with Centum Electronics for joint development of high-technology navigation systems for the Indian Navy

New Delhi: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based Centum Electronics Limited for joint development of high-technology navigation systems for the Indian Navy.

The agreement, signed at GRSE Bhavan in Kolkata on Wednesday, marks a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing research, development, and manufacturing of cutting-edge naval navigation systems in India.

The MoU has been signed by GRSE's Director (Shipbuilding) Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd), and Centum Electronics Limited's Joint Managing Director Nikhil Mallavarapu in the presence of GRSE's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), and Centum Electronics Limited's CMD Apparao V Mallavarapu. Senior officials from both organisations, including Centum Electronics' President (SEBU) Dr Vinod S Chippalkatti; Centum T&S Pvt Ltd General Manager R Venkatasubramanian; and GRSE's Chief General Manager (Design) Cmde Rajiv Sreedharan, IN (Retd) also attended the event.

Under the agreement, GRSE and Centum Electronics will jointly undertake research and development of advanced naval navigation systems. The partnership will focus on leveraging and enhancing existing manufacturing infrastructure for components and sub-assemblies, as well as carrying out onboard installation, integration, trials, and setting to work of the systems. It will also include the modernization and upgradation of existing systems in service.
