GSL launches 6th Fast Patrol Vessel ‘ICGS Atal’

New Delhi: In a significant push toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has launched ‘ICGS Atal’ (Yard 1275), the sixth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being constructed for the Indian Coast Guard.

The vessel has been launched at GSL’s state-of-the-art shipyard in Vasco-da-Gama by Smt. Shilpa Agarwal, in the presence of Rozy Agarwal, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor (PIFA) to the Coast Guard Headquarters. The event witnessed participation from senior officials of the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, industry partners, and GSL leadership.

Addressing the gathering, GSL's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay said, “The launch of ICGS Atal is yet another milestone in our enduring journey toward a self-reliant India. This vessel reflects the indomitable spirit of Team GSL and its unwavering commitment to indigenisation, innovation, and excellence in shipbuilding, even amidst global supply chain challenges.”

The Chief Guest Rozy Agarwal commended GSL for its strong execution capabilities and its instrumental role in bolstering India's maritime defence preparedness.

Designed in-house by GSL, the FPVs are 52 metres long with an 8-metre beam and a displacement of 320 tonnes. Built for high-speed operations, these vessels are equipped for coastal patrols, island protection missions, and the safeguarding of offshore assets—enhancing India’s maritime surveillance and response capabilities.
