GSL signs an MoU with administration of Lakshadweep

Goa: Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a contract with Port Shipping and Aviation, Administration Union Territory (UT) of Lakshadweep on September 23 for the building of carrier vessels.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by GSL's CMD Cmde BB Nagpal, NM & Dr Shashipal Dabas, Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS), Director of port shipping and aviation, Lakshadweep, in the presence of senior officials of GSL and UT in Kochi.

Under MoU, GSL will build carrier vessels

"Under this MoU, GSL will build carrier vessel for carrying 2,000 LPG cylinders. The vessel is intended to transport LPG cylinders from the mainland to Lakshadweep islands. The vessel shall be designed and built as twins screw vessel for carrying LPG cylinders. It will be capable of transporting 2,000 domestic LPG cylinders or 60 tonnes of packed petroleum products in barrels above deck level from the mainland to various islands of the UT of Lakshadweep. The vessel is designed to operate at a speed of 11 knots with an endurance of 10 days and can carry a complement of 18 personnel on board. GSL won this contract through competitive bidding," GSL said in a press release.
