The celebrations were held at the New HMA Campus in Bengaluru in the presence of His Highness Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament and Custodian of the Royal House of Mysore, along with HAL’s Board of Directors led by Chairman and Managing Director Dr D K Sunil, Chief Executive Officers, Executive Directors, former CMDs and employees.

Highlighting HAL’s historic roots, His Highness Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar unveiled the bust of His Highness Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar at the campus. Acknowledging the honour, he recalled the contributions of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore, who laid the foundation for HAL at the age of 21, playing a pivotal role in the birth of India’s aeronautical industry. Congratulating HAL on its progress, he said the company continues to remain at the forefront of aerospace and defence, setting the direction for the sector’s future growth.

Addressing the gathering, Dr D K Sunil outlined HAL’s ongoing transformation journey, with a strong focus on digitalisation, adoption of artificial intelligence, operational excellence and capacity expansion. He also highlighted the establishment of a dedicated Research and Development Centre for space as part of the company’s forward-looking strategy.

“Institution-building goes beyond technology. It requires leadership that consistently builds capabilities,” Dr Sunil said, calling for sustained execution across all domains, enhanced operational efficiency and deeper indigenisation to strengthen India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

As part of the Foundation Day celebrations, the cover of a special HAL publication by Amar Chitra Katha, along with HAL MyStamp, was unveiled, reflecting the company’s efforts to chronicle its rich legacy and connect with a wider audience.

Over its 86-year journey, HAL has played a central role in strengthening India’s defence preparedness and aerospace capabilities. With renewed emphasis on innovation, indigenisation and global outreach, the Navratna PSU aims to consolidate its position as a key player in the international aerospace and defence landscape.
