New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s premier aerospace and defence PSU, has emerged as the successful bidder for the transfer of technology (ToT) of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), a compact launch system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
As per the official communication submitted to stock exchanges, HAL will now be entrusted with the complete technology of SSLV, encompassing design, manufacturing, quality control, integration, launch operations, and post-flight analysis. The comprehensive transfer package also includes training and support for seamless technology absorption.
This strategic acquisition positions HAL to undertake the mass production of SSLVs to cater to both domestic and international markets, significantly boosting India’s capabilities in the fast-growing segment of small satellite launches.
The SSLV is designed to offer on-demand launch services for payloads up to 500 kg to Low Earth Orbit (LEO), enabling quicker and more flexible satellite deployments. With this technology transfer, HAL is expected to become a key industry player in global small satellite launch services.
The development marks a milestone in the collaborative efforts between ISRO and India’s defence manufacturing sector under the “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, reinforcing HAL’s expanding role in the space domain.
