HSL conferred 'Mini Ratna' status by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), the nation’s premier shipbuilding enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has been conferred the prestigious Mini Ratna (Category-I) status. The certificate has been formally handed over by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh to HSL’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Cmde Girideep Singh, during the Annual Performance Review meeting of the 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) held at DPSU Bhavan, New Delhi, on Monday.

The conferment marks a significant milestone in HSL’s journey, acknowledging its consistent performance, operational excellence, and growing contribution to India’s defence and maritime sectors. With this status, HSL gains enhanced financial and operational autonomy, empowering it to further expand its role in shipbuilding, repairs, and indigenous defence manufacturing.

During the event, Singh declared 2025 as the “Year of Reforms” for the defence sector and highlighted the government’s focus on Research & Development, indigenisation, and defence exports as key drivers of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.

HSL reiterated its commitment to advancing India’s maritime and defence manufacturing capabilities through innovation, technology absorption, and self-reliant shipbuilding. The recognition as a Mini Ratna is expected to strengthen HSL’s efforts towards enhancing efficiency, competitiveness, and global engagement in defence production.
