Organised by the Directorate General of Shipping under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, in collaboration with the National Maritime Day Celebrations Committee, the ceremony took place at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai. The event was graced by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.

Bhanu Priya has been recognised for her instrumental role in advancing sustainable shipbuilding, particularly her work in designing hydrogen-powered tugs—an innovation that aligns with the global push for greener maritime solutions. She is the only woman officer from the shipbuilding sector and the state of Andhra Pradesh to receive this prestigious recognition this year.

“This honour is not just mine but a tribute to my entire team and the remarkable women working at HSL,” said Bhanu Priya in her acceptance speech.

“HSL is undergoing a dynamic transformation, and women are at the forefront of this change. Across departments, women are seizing opportunities, driving excellence, and contributing meaningfully to the organisation’s growth,” the Defence PSU said in an official statement.

The International Day for Women in Maritime, observed annually on May 18, celebrates the achievements of women in a traditionally male-dominated sector and promotes gender equality across the global maritime industry.

Bhanu Priya’s recognition also reflects HSL’s broader efforts to foster innovation and inclusivity within its workforce. Her leadership in green shipbuilding technology exemplifies the growing impact of women professionals in redefining India’s maritime future.
