General Bipin Rawat receives farewell guard of honour

New Delhi: General Bipin Rawat was appointed as India's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) on Monday, and on Tuesday he received his farewell Guard of Honour as the Army Chief at South Block. On the outgoing day as the Chief of Army Staff (CAoS) Rawat thanked all the army personnel and their families for extending full support to him in his three-year tenure at the helm of the 1.3 million force.

"My solemn gratitude to all ranks, soldiers who have laid down their lives in the line of duty, Veer Mata, Veer Nari and veterans. My compliments to soldiers on Northern, Western and Eastern front braving the icy cold winters," he said.

"I convey my best to each and every rank and file of the Indian Army. I also congratulate Gen Naravane on being the next Army Chief. He is a very competent and capable officer. Gen Naravane through his competence and professionalism will take Army to greater heights," the General added. Gen Rawat paid respects to the fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial and interacted with the press after receiving the farewell Guard of Honour in the forecourt of the South Block.
