New Delhi: The Indian Navy Hydrographic Survey Ship, INS Jamuna, which is on a deployment to carry out Joint Hydrographic Survey off the South-West coast of Sri Lanka, has undertaken several survey activities. The survey started on February 6 and has been going on since then.

A team of Sri Lankan Navy hydrographers, including officers and sailors, have also been embarked onboard INS Jamuna for the duration of the survey.
Over the last 10 days, the ship has undertaken several survey activities as part of the Foreign Cooperation Survey, alongwith the Sri Lanka Navy hydrographers. A detached survey camp, comprising sailors from Indian and Sri Lankan Navy, have been undertaking observation round the clock. The detached survey camp is also tasked for fixing of navigational aids and delineation of high water line. Ships helicopter was also utilised for the survey operations.
NS Jamuna (J16) is a hydrographic survey ship in the Indian Navy, under the Southern Naval Command. Jamuna is equipped with a helicopter, a Bofors 40 mm gun, four survey motorboats, and two small boats. The ship has the distinction of being associated with relief work in the wake of the Gujarat earthquake, Tsunami 2004, as well as Operation Vijay during the Kargil War. The Jamuna was also awarded a Mention in Dispatches. It has been built by state-run Goa Shipyard Limited. It was commissioned into the Naval service at Kochi in 1991.
