Mumbai/Delhi: L&T Defence, the defence arm of Larsen & Toubro, has been awarded the coveted 'Green Channel Status' on Monday for major Naval weapon delivery systems from the Directorate General Quality Assurance (DGQA), Ministry of Defence (MoD). The grant of Green Channel Certificate to a firm provides deemed registration status, waiver of pre-dispatch inspection and acceptance of stores under the supplying firm's guarantee or warranty against the contracts concluded by various procurement agencies under MoD. L&T Defence was accorded the status after stringent audits of its production facilities, quality systems, and products, carried out by the DGQA.

Rear Admiral Atul Khanna, Additional Director General, and Head of Naval Quality Assurance, today formally awarded the 'Green Channel Status' to L&T Defence team in the presence JD Patil, Whole Time Director (Defence and Smart Technologies) and Member of the Board. Dr Sudhir Mishra, CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited and Senior officers from Naval Head Quarters and from the Quality Assurance establishments were also present at the occasion.

First private sector company to be awarded 'Green Channel' status

L&T holds the distinction of being the first private sector defence company to be granted this status for delivery of major systems. L&T Valves, another group company of Larsen & Toubro, secured the coveted Green Channel Certification from Ministry of Defence in November 2019. L&T Defence has built in-house capabilities and capacities over three and a half decades, by offering indigenous defence solutions. The company has developed competencies in conceptualization, design, analysis, engineering, embedded software, manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing and through-life support to the armed forces over the life cycle of the equipment, systems and platforms.

RAdm Khanna on the development said that the grant of Green Channel Certificate reposed their trust in L&T Defence and applauded its journey of 25 years of indigenising the platform-specific systems for naval vessels. He encouraged L&T to continue enhancing quality standards and to elevate dialogue with naval QA agencies.

While JD Patil said "We are proud to receive the Green Channel Certification, especially on the 50th Vijay Divas. LEcr has been associated with the armed forces for over the last three and a half decades, in providing cutting edge technology and high-quality systems. Team L&T will live up to this trust bestowed upon us, and our defence QA will endeavour towards delivering flawless systems in a timely manner."

What is the Green Channel Policy?

The Green Channel Policy was introduced in March 2017 by the MoD, as part of the 'Make in India' initiative with a view to promoting ease of doing business to achieve the national vision of the make in India. Awarding Green Channel status to any firm is a mechanism for ensuring that the awarded firm has predefined financial and quality credentials for broad categories of items having a continuous requirement for mass consumption in defence forces.
