New Delhi: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NACE International India Section (NIIS) to establish India’s first dedicated Marine Blasting & Painting Skill Centre, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country’s marine coatings workforce.

According to MDL, this five-year strategic partnership aims to deliver globally recognised NACE/AMPP certification programmes aligned with the Skill India–National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) framework. The initiative is expected to create a structured and internationally benchmarked training pathway for marine coating professionals across India.
The agreement was formalised at a ceremony held at Sagarika Auditorium in Mumbai in the presence of senior officials and industry leaders. Among those present were Cdr Vasudev Puranik, Director (Corporate Planning & Personnel) of MDL; Dipen Jhaveri, Chairman of AMPP India Chapter; N. Manohar Rao, Trustee of NIIS; and Arun Kumar Chand, Executive Director (HR) of MDL.
As part of the initiative, MDL also launched a specialised Training Book for Blasters & Painters, aimed at standardising skill development and enhancing competency levels in marine surface preparation and coating applications.

The proposed skill centre is expected to play a crucial role in developing a certified and globally competitive workforce, addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in shipbuilding, ship repair, and offshore sectors. The collaboration shows MDL’s commitment to capacity building and aligns with the broader national objective of enhancing employability through industry-driven skill development programmes.
