Innovation: MIDHANI develops 99.6% pure Nickel wire for ventilators

New Delhi: Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a Hyderabad-based Miniratna Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence on Monday announced that it has developed 99.6 percent pure Nickel wire of Dia 158 Microns indigenously for ventilators use. It has been developed in a record time of 96 hours. This information has been shared by MIDHANI in a tweet on Monday. The DPSU further added that the wire developed by the company will be used in oxygen sensors pertaining to critical care ventilator. Prior to this development, the Nickel wire of these purity standards used to be imported. Supposedly, this innovative move of the Defence PSU will strengthen India's fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The news came almost a month after, the Defence Navratna, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) announced the production of ventilators with the help of local companies. At a time when the nation is committed with all its resources in the fight against Corona crisis, the DPSUs are playing a vital role to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Reacting on efforts being made by Defence PSUs, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also lauded DPSUs in a video conference.

Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) is specialized metals and metal alloys manufacturing facility in India, located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It is a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), under the administrative control of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. MIDHANI has been set up with a view to achieving self-reliance in production and supply of various superalloys, special steels, materials to Defence, other strategic sectors for nuclear, aeronautical and space applications. The guiding factors for setting up of MIDHANI were the demand for Defence oriented technologies, which come under the national priorities.
