New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Steel, hosted the "SAIL - Defence Conclave 2025" at its Alloy Steels Plant (ASP) in Durgapur on June 4, 2025, reaffirming its strategic role in supporting India’s growing defence infrastructure.
The conclave brought together key stakeholders from the defence sector, including senior officials from Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and ordnance factories, to deliberate on evolving requirements and strengthen collaborative efforts in indigenous defence production. The event focused on crucial themes such as self-reliance, indigenisation, and import substitution, in alignment with the Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Speaking at the event, senior leadership from SAIL, including Director (Commercial) VS Chakravarthy and Director In-Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant (also holding additional charge of Durgapur and Burnpur Steel Plants) Alok Verma shared insights into the company’s ongoing initiatives and future roadmap for meeting the critical needs of the defence sector.
The discussions underscored opportunities for greater synergy between SAIL and the defence industry in the areas of material specifications, indigenous technology adoption, and enhanced supply capabilities. The conclave also highlighted SAIL’s continuous efforts to tailor its production capabilities to match the specifications of advanced defence-grade steel.
As a leading supplier of specialised steels for strategic applications, SAIL reaffirmed its commitment to being a trusted partner in India's defence manufacturing ecosystem. The company emphasized its readiness to scale up supplies to meet the rising demand and contribute significantly to the nation’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in defence production.
With this conclave, SAIL once again demonstrated its proactive approach to building strong institutional linkages with the defence sector and its resolve to play a central role in bolstering national security through robust domestic capabilities.
