New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence Secretary (Defence Production) Sanjeev Kumar on Monday inaugurated the Prachand Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) structure assembly line and an Automated Storage & Retrieval System (ASRS) at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s New Helicopter Factory in Tumakuru, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and self-reliance.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by HAL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) DK Sunil along with the Ministry of Defence Joint Secretary (Aero) Manisha Chandra. Senior officials from HAL and the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
The New Helicopter Facility is a state-of-the-art greenfield complex established to manufacture the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) and the Prachand LCH. The facility is also expected to support upcoming indigenous programmes such as the Indian Multi Role Helicopter (IMRH) and the Deck-based Multi Role Helicopter (DBMRH), reinforcing the country’s push for indigenisation in the aerospace and defence sectors.

Following the inauguration, the Defence Production Secretary held a review meeting with HAL’s management to assess the progress of ongoing projects. He expressed satisfaction with the development of the facility and the roadmap for helicopter production. He also visited key infrastructure units, including the dedicated LUH production facility, LCH equipping hangar and the newly inaugurated ASRS, highlighting the growing manufacturing ecosystem within HAL.
