New Delhi: Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has called upon Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navratna Defence PSU, to spearhead India’s semiconductor revolution as part of the nation’s vision for a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Addressing the annual R&D Excellence Awards ceremony held at the BEL Academy of Excellence, Nalanda, on January 12, Dhankhar outlined a three-pronged approach for BEL’s strategic contribution to the Government’s mission.

The Vice President emphasized the need for BEL to focus on end-to-end development—from design to manufacturing—to position India as a global leader in semiconductors, integrate India into the global supply chain by mentoring and collaborating with start-ups, and foster innovation by establishing partnerships with educational institutions and research organisations.

While commending BEL’s R&D achievements, Dhankhar presented awards to outstanding contributors, including BEL-Ghaziabad, recognized as the Best R&D Division, and individual key contributors. BEL’s CMD Manoj Jain was lauded for securing seven patents, while the Principal Scientist of BEL’s Central Research Laboratory in Bangalore was recognized for achieving 14 patents. To date, BEL has amassed an impressive portfolio of 267 patents.

“The spirit to innovate and engage in research must be instilled in school and college students. We cannot rest on our past laurels. Atmanirbhar Bharat will become a reality only when the world regards us as a crucible of research and development,” remarked the Vice President during his address.

Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar, the Vice President’s wife, and Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot were also present at the ceremony. The event concluded with the dignitaries planting saplings, symbolizing growth and sustainability.
