AAI’s women welfare wing ‘Kalyanmayee’ making masks for needy people

New Delhi: The women welfare wing of AAI's "Kalyanmayee," which includes female employees of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the family members of AAI, has also come up for helping the needy people in their fight against Coronavirus (COVID-19). Kalyanmayee members at Guwahati and other NER airports are collecting unused cloth, bed sheets and similar materials for making masks. They are making masks from household cloth and have targeted for preparing about 10,000 masks to be distributed almost free to the needy ones including maids, cleaning staffs, security guards, taxi drivers, e-rickshaw drivers, hawkers etc.

About 3,000 masks are already stocked and these masks have been prepared by the self-help groups. These self-help groups especially ladies have tailored clothes and made masks for Kalyanmayee.

They are using old extra uniform cloth lying unutilized first as being bandh no shops were open in city like Dibrugarh and Guwahati. Through this initiative they have provided employment opportunity to the self-employed, helping groups and masks are made in the supervision of Kalyanmayee members maintaining all hygiene practices. AAI has prepared these masks with minimum cost and will be distributed free of cost to needy people and if required more nos. of such masks will be prepared considering the outbreak of COVID-19 in the region as well as the country. Two masks will be provided to each person. Each and every person entering in Airport premises and even airport colony will be insisted politely to wear the mask.

Hand made masks for needy people

Stakeholders not only police, venders, cleaning staff, helpers will be covered but even Taxi operators, Auto rickshaw operators, maids, garbage collectors Howlers, Ironing man, shopkeepers, visitors etc all will be covered.
Wear MASK stay safe and healthy tag line is being implemented in All NER Airports with effect from Tuesday. This is pertinent to mention that even WHO is advising to do so and our Hon'ble PM also recently. However, we have started this from March 30, itself.
