BHEL celebrates Utkrishthta Utsav and BHEL Day

BHEL celebrated its annual BHEL Day with great fervour, where the company’s ‘Excel Awards’ were conferred on meritorious employees

New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) celebrated its annual BHEL Day with great fervour, where the company’s ‘Excel Awards’ were conferred on meritorious employees. The Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and presented the awards. The Secretary (Heavy Industries) Kamran Rizvi; Joint Secretary (Heavy Industries) Vijay Mittal; BHEL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) K Sadashiv Murthy; Directors; Chief Vigilance Officer, and other officers and employees were present on the occasion.

HD Kumaraswamy gave away Excel awards to 31 teams comprising 161 employees from various units of BHEL. The awards included, Utkrishthta Puraskar - for all round excellence; Utkrisht Takniki Prakashan Puraskar - for publishing Technical Paper/ Booklet/ Book, Anusandhan Puraskar - for Research & Development, Grahak Santushti Puraskar - for Customer Satisfaction, Utpadakata Puraskar - for enhancement of Productivity, Pratibaddhata Puraskar - for recognizing exemplary commitment to work under adverse critical conditions, and Samaj Seva Puraskar - for outstanding contribution to Society.

BHEL’s Excel Awards scheme is a unique award scheme that recognises all-round excellence and contribution made by employees for the company's growth, profitability, customer satisfaction and technological development in addition to exemplary achievements made in sports, social or cultural work, etc. The award amount ranges from Rs 35,000/- to Rs 2,40,000/- for each team with a host of privileges for the awardees. The scheme has a rigorous internal screening process and the awardees are selected by an external jury.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said that BHEL has always risen to the occasion and demonstrated its commitment towards various programs of the Government, and has been making a significant contribution to nation-building and the Indian economy since its inception. Through commitment and dedication, BHEL is not only working towards making India self-reliant in the energy and infrastructure sectors but is also making significant contributions toward making India Aatmanirbhar in the defence and aerospace sectors, he added. The Minister also lauded BHEL’s crucial role in ISRO's successful Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Speaking on the occasion, Rizvi shared that BHEL achieving a record order booking of approximately Rs 78,000 crore in 2023-24, was indeed a remarkable feat considering the challenging business landscape. This demonstrates the company's resilience and strong market position, he added. He exhorted the employees to take inspiration from the clarion call of the Prime Minister – ‘reform, perform and transform’. He also congratulated the BHEL management for recognising and rewarding employees for their outstanding performance and celebrating not just technological excellence, but also innovation, customer satisfaction and social service.

During the event, the Minister released the Hindi magazine of BHEL, Arunima.

Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, BHEL CMD shared that the Excel awards are given to recognise and celebrate some of the most dedicated employees who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their field of work and whose innovative approaches have led to significant improvements in cost efficiency, cycle time reduction, material conservation, and quality enhancement. He called upon all the employees to renew their commitment to BHEL's journey of excellence.
