ECL marks 77th Republic Day with emphasis on unity, discipline and nation-building

New Delhi: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) celebrated the 77th Republic Day at its headquarters in Sanctoria with patriotic fervour and dignity, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to unity, discipline and nation-building.

The ceremony was led by EIL's Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Satish Jha, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. Senior officials present on the occasion included Director (Finance) Anzar Alam; Director (Technical/Operations) Niladri Roy; Director (Technical/Planning & Projects) Girish Gopinathan Nair; Chief Vigilance Officer Deepti Patel; and Shatakshi Mahila Mandal's President Kiran Jha, among others. Representatives of trade unions, members of the Welfare Board, heads of departments, contractual workers and employees from various units also participated, reflecting the collective spirit of the ECL workforce.

The programme began with the hoisting of the National Flag by the CMD, followed by the National Anthem and inspection of the Guard of Honour. Addressing the gathering, Jha paid tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s freedom fighters and reiterated ECL’s role in nation-building through sustained coal production, technological advancement and inclusive employee welfare initiatives.

Highlighting the evolving energy landscape, regulatory changes and growing environmental expectations, the CMD emphasised the importance of adaptability, innovation and collective responsibility to meet future challenges, while adhering to the constitutional values of the country.

The celebrations included cultural performances by children from nearby schools and a demonstration by the CISF showcasing a simulated hostage rescue operation. On the occasion, ECL management also felicitated employees for their outstanding performance.

The Republic Day parade concluded with the dispersal of contingents and the release of balloons, symbolising freedom and shared aspirations for progress. As part of the commemorative events, Shri Jha inaugurated a newly constructed badminton court at the Dishergarh Club, reinforcing ECL’s focus on employee welfare and community engagement.

The programme was conducted by ECL’s Security Department under the guidance of Major Sharadendu Tiwari, Deputy General Manager and Head of Department (Security).
