New Delhi: Setting a high benchmark for operational efficiency and environmental stewardship, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a premier subsidiary of Coal India Limited having coal mining operations in West Bengal and Jharkhand, has successfully wrapped up the preparatory phase of the nationwide Special Campaign 6.

With a resolute focus on institutionalizing Swachhata (cleanliness), minimising administrative pendency and modernising governance, ECL has finalised comprehensive targets across all its mining areas, workshops and headquarters.
As part of the preparatory phase blueprint, ECL identified 30 key operational sites spanning its expansive command areas for intensive cleanliness and rejuvenation drives. A major highlight of the campaign blueprint is the targeted clearance of 208,052 sq. ft. of area. By systematically removing clutter from industrial zones, office complexes and residential townships, the coal major aims to transform workspaces into safe, green and highly productive environments.
Aligning with the national mission of resource optimisation and sustainable management, ECL has lined up a robust target to dispose of 850 Metric Tons of scrap material during the campaign cycle. Building on successful past asset monetisation drives—such as major scrap disposals across the Rajmahal Area, Khottadih OCP (Pandaveswar Area) and SP Mines—this initiative reinforces ECL's commitment to eco-friendly practices while unlocking substantial commercial value from unserviceable assets.

ECL’s preparatory strategy places equal emphasis on administrative efficiency and swift workflow redressal:
Physical File Management: The company has targeted the review of 1,200 physical files, earmarking 1,000 obsolete files for systematic weeding out to optimize record-keeping infrastructure.
Paperless Governance (e-Files): Demonstrating leadership in digital adoption, ECL has set a target to review 3,800 e-files and achieve closure on 3,600 e-files, ensuring rapid inter-departmental communication, transparency, and a minimal carbon footprint.
Reflecting on the successful conclusion of the preparatory phase, ECL management noted that the blueprint for Special Campaign 6 represents a holistic approach to corporate governance. By combining rigorous physical cleanliness with digital agility and sustainable scrap disposal, ECL continues to champion the values of transparency, accountability and excellence in the coal sector.
