Enrich the product basket with more value added products: RSP’s CEO

Rourkela: "Enrich the product basket with more value-added products to explore niche market segments," advised SAIL-Rourkela Steel Plant's (RSP) CEO Dipak Chattaraj the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) collective, while discussing the strategies to be adopted to meet the current sluggish market conditions. The meeting on product development held at the video conference hall on Saturday, which was attended by Plant's ED (Works) PK Dash, ED (MM) DK Mohapatra as well as Chief General Managers and senior officers of all the Mills and associated units.

Speaking on the occasion, Chattaraj, urged the senior executives to come up with ingenious ideas and adopt unconventional methods to generate cash for the company. He also emphasized upon the marketing of the products in a more aggressive way, understanding the customer behaviour, establishing a personal rapport with the customers and exploring new end users of RSP products. 

The interaction held in an informal environment touched various issues like increasing rolling of LPG cylinder steel, rolling of thinner sections (less than 0.2mm) in Hot Strip Mill, customisation of alloy-added products, enhancing productivity of semi rolled plates, modification in the cooling process and improving the quality of yield in New Plate Mill etc.

Besides, the CEO also discussed increasing the productivity of narrow width plate (less than 8mm) in Plate Mill, improving the productivity of coil (less than 0.4mm) in CRM, stepping up of production from ERW Pipe Plant and statutory certification of products of Special Plate Plant. Reducing demurrage, branding of products and selling of secondary steel were some other points discussed threadbare in the meeting.
