GMIS 2023: MoUs worth Rs 2.37 lakh crore inked on second day

One of the biggest maritime summits in the world, GMIS 2023, recorded major investment of Rs 2.37 lakh crores on the second day of the three-day summit being held here in Mumbai

Mumbai: As many as 34 MoUs worth Rs 3.24 lakh crore were signed on day-1, and MoUs worth Rs 2.37 lakh crore inked on the second day of GMIS 2023. Those who have attended the earlier two editions of the Global Maritime India Summit, can make out how the stature of the event has dramatically risen. It may look that the GMIS 2023 has suddenly become one of the largest events of the maritime world, however, thinking so would amount to undermining the years of dedication and hard work put behind it.

A total of 70 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed in the various industries of maritime sector such as Port Development and modernisation, green hydrogen & ammonia, port led development, business & commerce, ship building, knowledge sharing & Port connectivity during the day.

Day two's MoUs were signed with focus on sustainable development of entire maritime. The agreements were signed in presence of the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal, the Minister of state of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shripad Naik and Shantanu Thakur.

“Today, at the Global Maritime India Summit, 2023 has ushered a new age in sustainable development of the country with a record number of 70 MoUs with an investment of Rs 2.37 lakh crores", Sonowal said during the press conference held right after the MoU signing ceremony at the venue in BKC, Mumbai.

"The maritime sector is playing an instrumental role as it has paved the way for India set sail towards Green Sustainability Transportation. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, India has experienced a historic growth in the last 9 years", he added.

Speaking about the future plans of the shipping ministry, Sonowal said "Maritime sector is no exception as we are giving major thrust to the future growth multipliers. Under Modi ji’s inspired leadership, India has scaled new heights to become fifth largest economy in the world."
