The fortnight-long campaign was observed in line with the calendar issued by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Participating entities included major PSUs and institutions under the Ministry such as Steel Authority of India Limited, NMDC Limited, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, KIOCL Limited, MOIL Limited, MECON Limited and MSTC Limited, among others.

The initiative began with the administration of the Swachhata Pledge at the Ministry, alongside the display of banners and standees to spread awareness. Comprehensive cleanliness drives were conducted across office premises, including inspections of rooms, libraries, and record sections.

As part of the campaign, PSUs also observed ‘Steel Safety Day’ on March 28, focusing on workplace safety practices.

Throughout the Pakhwada, a wide range of activities were undertaken, including fire safety drills, workshops on solid waste management, and cleanliness drives in plants, townships, nearby villages, slums, and schools operated by these organisations. Awareness programmes were also conducted to discourage the use of single-use plastics.

The campaign concluded on March 31 with a renewed commitment by the Ministry and its PSUs to sustain cleanliness initiatives throughout the year.
