New Delhi: To give thrust to the 'Skill India' initiative of the government, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), a Miniratna PSU under the Department of Fertilizers, has tied up with various Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) located near its plants to train youth in various trades so as to enhance the chances of their employment in heavy and process industry. The decision has been taken by fertilizer PSU at a time when the nation is suffering from high unemployment rate due to the COVID-19 lockdown, which was imposed to control the spread of Coronavirus in March. According to an earlier report of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CIME), more than 27 million youth in the age group of 20-30 years had lost their jobs in April.

The company said that NFL's Nangal plant in Punjab has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ITI-Nangal to train youth in 12 trades. The students will be skilled under the dual system of training scheme under which they will learn theoretical skills in the institute and on-the-job training in NFL-Nangal plant.

In this regard, an MoU has been signed between NFL Nangal Plant's Deputy General Manager (HR) Renu RP Singh and ITI-Nangal's Principal Lalit Mohan.

ITI-Nangal is one of the oldest institutes in Punjab. With the signing of this MoU with ITI, the NFL becomes the first CPSE to take this initiative in the state of Punjab.
The company plans to explore more such options in future to give impetus to Skill India by training more youth from institutes.

NFL has five gas-based ammonia-urea plants viz. Nangal & Bathinda plants in Punjab, Panipat plant in Haryana and two plants at Vijaipur at Guna district in Madhya Pradesh.
