New Delhi: NHPC celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day at its Corporate Office in Faridabad with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta highlighting the company’s role in strengthening the country’s energy security and self-reliance.

Gupta said NHPC is playing an important role in providing reliable and clean energy and noted the company’s expanding responsibilities in renewable energy, pumped storage and energy storage. He highlighted the commissioning of 1,000 MW of the 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project and progress on the Dibang Multipurpose Project.
He said hydropower would remain NHPC’s core strength, while pumped storage would form an important part of the future energy system, with solar and wind emerging as key growth areas. He also emphasised expanding NHPC’s international business and consultancy activities.
Gupta stressed the importance of safety, quality, integrity and excellence, particularly in the wake of the Teesta-VI incident, and called for strengthening a safety-oriented work culture across all workplaces.

He also urged employees to promote digital interventions, Artificial Intelligence and other modern technologies, while encouraging young recruits to contribute new ideas and innovations. He called for greater focus on energy and water conservation and reduction in single-use plastic consumption.
Reiterating NHPC’s commitment to Viksit Bharat@2047, Gupta said the company would continue contributing to energy security, energy self-reliance and clean energy development while focusing on timely, safe and quality project execution.
The celebrations were attended by senior officials, employees and their families, while NHPC’s regional offices, power stations, projects and units across the country joined through live webcast. Exhibitions titled ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Tiranga’ were also organised at the Corporate Office.
