New Delhi: NHPC Limited, India's premier hydropower company, on Thursday said that it has successfully implemented e-Working, Webinars and Online Digital Learning amidst Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to ensure employee productivity and skill enhancement.
NHPC Limited's CMD AK Singh said, "Power sector is one of the most crucial sectors in the country and NHPC continues to maintain power generation across all its power stations 24×7 in this moment of crisis. We have enabled employees to use various digital tools through SSL-VPN connections (secured connections) which were earlier accessible using LAN or WAN connectivity through their office desktops. This has ensured uninterrupted business besides giving additional benefits like improvement in efficiency and faster decision making."
What has NHPC done online?
In a press release, NHPC said that during lockdown period it has successfully conducted crucial board meetings and executed crucial works as issuing the Letter of Awards to Solar Power Developers for interstate transmission system (ISTS) grid-connected photovoltaic projects aggregating to 1,600 MW installed capacity, awarding works of execution of 1,500 metres Head Race Tunnel works for 800 MW Parbati-II Project (Himachal Pradesh), obtained competitive bid against online tender for balance civil works of power-house of 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Project, conducting IT-enabled e-Reverse Auction (e-RA) for the 2,000 MW Grid Connected Solar PV Project to be set up anywhere in India, raising Rs 750 crore through the private placement of bonds at a very competitive interest rate of 6.80% p.a. for loan tenure of 10 years etc.
In addition to this, NHPC has also conducted online training programmes and webinars for more than 70 percent of its executive strength during the lockdown phases. The online training had been conducted in areas as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data and Cloud Computing etc. to help in developing employees' digital economy skills and make them future-ready. NHPC also conducted online training through Webinars in important areas related to hydropower development. NHPC also sensitized its employees to improve their immunity through online Yoga and other lifestyle management techniques. NHPC is conducting online yoga sessions regularly on weekdays for an hour for its employees and their family members with the aim of boosting immunity and improving health and work productivity.
Backdrop
NHPC had already begun implementing E-working for its employees even prior to the announcement of phase 1 of the lockdown period. The E-working was monitored and supported by the IT team of NHPC on 24×7 basis. NHPC in its continued efforts is leaving no stone unturned to leverage the competence of its employees and making them ready to accept future challenges.
