NMDC promotes awareness of women’s health & hygiene

NMDC Limited in association with state government of Chhattisgarh and Karnataka is promoting awareness on women health and hygiene

Hyderabad: In order to create awareness on Women Health and Hygiene programmes, especially on Menstrual Health Management, NMDC Limited is providing 20 sanitary pad machines to Women Self Help Groups in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka in association with respective state governments.

Former captain of West Indies cricket team Dwayne Bravo will associate with the cause through a documentary film titled "Men Take Lead" to create awareness among women and young girls to counter poor menstrual hygiene practices in the tribal areas of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

NMDC is also associating with Padmashri Arunachalam Muruganantham, popularly known as 'Padman', the inventor of low-cost sanitary pad making machines. The initiative will also be useful for women in Chhattisgarh to earn a livelihood through the manufacturing of sanitary napkins.

Expressing his delight on being associated with NMDC for this great cause, Bravo said, "Awareness among women in rural communities is very much needed to help them come out in the open and speak about their discomfort. The use of sanitary napkins will enhance a women's life and prevent them from various diseases, hence to have the support of a prestigious organisation like NMDC will enhance the impact of what we are trying to achieve."

Bravo has been working for this cause in his country, West Indies, for many years and he is now proud to be a part of this cause in India.

NMDC's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) N Baijendra Kumar said, "NMDC is always in the forefront when it comes to such CSR initiatives, and this cause of supporting women communities, with the help of Dwayne Bravo, by providing necessary health facilities in and around the projects of NMDC and in the tribal areas of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh will create great awareness in women and young girls in rural communities and help them combat unhygienic practices."
