New Delhi: NTPC Bongaigaon Sr. Manager (Operations) Deepak Anand successfully climbed and recently completed a trek of 60 kms at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) of Mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.

Deepak was a part of a six-member team from India including Prakriti Varshney, 1st female vegan to climb Mt. Everest in 2022.

Deepak had been training for this camp for the last two months with diet and physical workout. The entire trek was completed within six days.

On reaching the tip of the mountain, Anand successfully and proudly displayed NTPC's and Indian flag as a sense of accomplishment and success.

The snow-capped peak of Africa is a dormant volcano and can be found inside the Kilimanjaro National Park of Tanzania. The climb began at Machame Gate, at an altitude of 1,800 metres, with an approach to the southwest of the mountain. It passed through majestic rainforest on the first day, before continuing up the mountain to reach Shira Camp, where the Lemosho route joins from the west.

There are seven main Mount Kilimanjaro routes which lead to the summit, Uhuru Peak, one of which starts on the Northern side of the mountain and the rest on the Southern side. The routes are Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Shira, Rongai, Northern Circuit and Umbwe. The Machame route is nicknamed the ‘Whiskey Route’ as it is considered more difficult than the ‘Coca Cola Route’, the nickname for the Marangu route.

NTPC congratulates Deepak for his adventurous and "can do it” spirit which is imbibed in every NTPCian.
