NTPC Kaniha receives two awards for environmental excellence

These recognitions further cement NTPC Kaniha’s position as a frontrunner in sustainable energy practices and reinforce NTPC’s overarching commitment to environmental responsibility across its operations

New Delhi: NTPC Talcher Kaniha, one of India’s leading thermal power stations of NTPC Limited, has been conferred with two major awards for its exemplary commitment to environmental management and sustainable practices.

The plant received the Kalinga Environment Excellence National Award 2024 in the Five Star Category — the highest level of recognition—at the 10th National Conclave on Environment, Energy and Climate Change (EECC) 2025, held in Bhubaneswar on June 21. The accolade was awarded in recognition of the plant’s outstanding performance in environment management and its effective pollution mitigation measures.

The EECC Conclave was supported by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (Government of Odisha), Odisha State Productivity Council, and the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad. The award was accepted by K Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director & Head of Plant, NTPC Kaniha, in the presence of several dignitaries, including H.E. Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda; Uma Nanduri (IFS), Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board & PCCF Kendu Leaf, Government of Odisha; and Ashok Kumar Tripathy, IAS (Retd), President of the Odisha State Productivity Council.

In a separate recognition, NTPC Kaniha was also conferred with the Platinum Award — the highest in its category—for "Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability" by the Green Enviro Foundation. The award was presented at the Green Enviro Environment Award and Summit held in Lonavala on June 19, 2025. The event was graced by Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister and current Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA). The award was received on behalf of NTPC Kaniha by Rabi Shankar Verma, Senior Manager (EMG), and AL Mohammad Idris KS, Senior Manager (Ash Utilization).

Expressing pride on the twin achievements, K Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director, NTPC Talcher Kaniha, congratulated the plant team for their dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship. “These prestigious awards are a testimony to our team’s consistent efforts, commitment, and leadership in the field of sustainable development. I urge everyone to keep setting benchmarks in environmental excellence,” he stated.
