The students participated in the training programme in four batches between April and June 2026. The initiative provided aspiring engineers with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to the operations of one of India's largest integrated steel plants.

The training programme commenced with orientation sessions held at the Gopabandhu Auditorium of RSP's Learning and Development (L&D) Department. Students from diverse engineering disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical, Civil, Electronics and Computer Science, enrolled in the programme to gain firsthand understanding of large-scale industrial operations and steelmaking processes.

The orientation sessions were conducted under the guidance of Pramod Kumar Sahoo, Chief General Manager (HR-L&D), in the presence of Pradipta Kumar Sahoo, General Manager (HR-L&D), along with senior officials of the department. The sessions familiarised participants with the history and evolution of Rourkela Steel Plant, its production processes, product portfolio, workplace safety practices and industrial discipline.

As part of the programme, trainees were introduced to the complete steelmaking value chain through presentations, audio-visual modules and an immersive Virtual Reality (VR) film showcasing the plant's production process. Special emphasis was placed on safety protocols, departmental guidelines and best practices to be followed during the training period.

Following the orientation, students were assigned to various departments across the plant, where they are working under designated mentors and guides. The trainees are gaining insights into operational practices, advanced technologies and industrial management systems while preparing project reports as part of their academic requirements.

The programme has been coordinated by Duryodhan Sahoo, Assistant General Manager (HR-L&D), along with the L&D team.
