New Delhi: Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, has conferred the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon Ravindra Kumar Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Power Grid), a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power. The honour recognises Tyagi’s outstanding contributions to the growth of India’s power sector and his significant work in the field of Electrical Engineering, Science, and Technology.
The honorary degree was presented to Tyagi by Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, during the 55th Convocation Ceremony of Punjab Engineering College.
A distinguished technocrat, Tyagi has been instrumental in pioneering several innovations in the Indian power sector, including the development of 1200 kV systems, environment-friendly transformers, AI-based asset management, and process-based substations. He has represented India in various international committees and chaired several key technical bodies such as the Electrotechnical Division of BIS and CIGRE study groups, contributing to the formulation of global technical standards.
Over his 35 years of rich experience in the power industry, Tyagi has held several key positions across major power CPSUs. At Power Grid, he has played a crucial role in multi-disciplinary areas such as Asset Management, Engineering, Business Development (domestic and overseas), Telecom, Load Despatch & Communication, NTAMC, and DMS.
An alumnus of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, Tyagi holds a Master’s degree in Energy Studies from IIT Delhi and is a Fulbright Scholar from Carnegie Mellon University, USA.
In recognition of his leadership and technical excellence, Tyagi has received numerous prestigious awards, including the CBIP Individual Award 2025, PSU Leadership Award 2025, ET Energy Leadership Award, International Electrotechnical Commission 1906 Award, and International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) Paris Award.
