RSP’s New Plate Mill touches 3 MT production mark

Rourkela Steel Plant's (RSP) New Plate Mill has achieved 3 Million Tonne (MT) of plate production within four years of its inception

Rourkela: "Let's make RSP a model plant and our country's pride," exhorted RSP's CEO Dipak Chattaraj while congratulating the New Plate Mill collective of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) for achieving 3 Million Tonne (MT) plate production within four years of its inception. The celebrations were held at New Plate Mill on Tuesday. The CEO was accompanied by ED (P&A) Raj Vir Singh, ED Minis(Works) Gautam Banerjee, ED (MM) DK Mohapatra, ED (Projects) Pankaj Kumar and CGM (F&A) P Nigam, several Chief General Managers, General Managers and senior officials of associate departments were also present on the occasion.

In his congratulatory note, the CEO emphasised upon the need for exploring exclusive market segments by rolling out plates with niche quality and grades. Referring to the various upcoming projects of national importance, the CEO said that these projects offer huge opportunities for the steel industry. He mentioned about the API grade plates rolled out from the New Plate Mill used for manufacturing high-quality pipes, and said that products like these can be game-changers.

The Executive Directors also congratulated the NPM collective for overcoming all the initial hiccups after the commissioning of the mill and achieving 3 million Tonne plate production in four years. Reposing faith in the NPM collective they also exhorted everyone to strive for cent percent utilisation of the mill.

The CEO cut a cake to mark the occasion and interacted with the employees. The jubilant employees of NPM, in turn, conveyed their readiness to meet future challenges. NPM's CGM Rajiv Ranjan thanked the dignitaries and assured them of their efforts to meet their expectations.

It is worth mentioning here that the state-of-the-art 4.3 metres wide New Plate Mill has the capability of producing a wide range of plates with close tolerances to meet stringent international standards and heavy and wide plates for the growing shipbuilding and boiler sectors. The New Plate Mill has also achieved the approval for DNV-GL (Det Norske Veritas Bermanischer Lloyd) Business Assurance to produce CE mark plates, which has helped RSP attain a stronghold in the European market.
