New Delhi: Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a leading Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) dedicated to the advancement of renewable energy in India, has been conferred with the prestigious CBIP Award for best contribution in solar energy. The recognition highlights SECI’s pioneering efforts in the renewable energy sector, particularly for its 100 MW Solar + Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh—one of the largest solar projects integrated with battery storage in the country.
The award acknowledges SECI’s instrumental role in fostering innovation in solar energy, spearheading renewable energy projects, and driving India’s transition toward a clean and sustainable energy future.
In addition to SECI’s institutional recognition, Sanjay Sharma, Director (Solar), was honored with the outstanding contribution in development of the Renewable Energy (RE) sector award. With an extensive 36-year career in the power sector, Sharma has been pivotal in establishing SECI as one of the youngest Navratna CPSUs. His leadership has facilitated the awarding of 50 GW of renewable energy projects, attracting significant global investments into India’s RE sector.
The CBIP Awards, instituted by the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP), celebrate remarkable contributions across energy, water, and infrastructure domains. The awards were presented by Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Sinha, Chairman of the Central Water Commission, and AK Dinkar, Secretary (CBIP), during a distinguished ceremony in New Delhi. Sanjay Sharma, Director (Solar), Joshit Ranjan Sikidar, Director (Finance), along with senior SECI officials, received the award on behalf of the organisation.
