SECL hosts Coal India Inter-Company Chess Tournament 2025–26

The three-day tournament, scheduled from March 12 to March 14, is witnessing participation from all eight subsidiary companies of Coal India along with players from SCCL

New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on Thursday inaugurated the 'Coal India Inter-Company Chess Tournament 2025–26' at Vasant Club in the SECL Vasant Vihar Township, with Director (Human Resources) Biranchi Das gracing the occasion as the chief guest.

The three-day tournament, scheduled from March 12 to March 14, is witnessing participation from all eight subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited along with players from Singareni Collieries Company Limited.

During the inaugural ceremony, Das administered the sportsmanship oath to all participating players and attendees. Extending his best wishes, he said that chess represents a unique combination of strategy, patience, planning and decision-making, noting that every move on the 64 squares of the chessboard requires thoughtful consideration. Such qualities, he added, also inspire individuals to perform effectively in their professional and daily responsibilities.

Among those present on the occasion were Bajrangi Shahi, member of the SECL Welfare Board representing labour unions, along with heads of departments at SECL headquarters, members of the SECL Headquarters Welfare Committee, Joint Consultative Committee members, Regional Welfare Committee members, representatives from various councils and unions, and a large number of officers and employees.

The dignitaries also interacted with players from various teams and extended their best wishes for the tournament.

The programme commenced with a welcome song and featured cultural performances including Chhattisgarh’s traditional Karma dance and Odissi dance.

The welcome address was delivered by G. Shyamala Rao, General Manager (Welfare). The event was anchored by Sheikh Zakir Hussain, Chief Manager (Environment), while the vote of thanks was proposed by Vivek Kumar Singh, Senior Manager (Welfare).
