Vizag steel employees bag ‘Viswakarma Rashtriya Purskar’

Viswakarma Rashtriya Purskar has been awarded to the Vizag steel employees for their innovative work for the organisation by Union Minister for Labour & Employment Santosh Gangwar

New Delhi: RINL-Vizag Steel employees have been conferred with 'Viswakarma Rashtriya Purskar' for their innovative work. This national-level recognition has been given to them by Union Minister for Labour & Employment Santosh Gangwar in New Delhi recently. RINL-VSP's CMD PK Rath congratulated them for receiving the 'Viswakarma Rashtriya Purskar'. He also appreciated their performance and mentioned that the awards truly reflect their commitment to undertaking a critical job innovatively.

What was the challenge?

The Torpedo Ladle cars which used to transfer molten iron from the iron-making section of the plant to the steel-making section. These cars are designed for transporting 300 tonnes of hot metal of 1500° C from the blast furnace to LD converters of steel melting shops (SMS). The overall length of the vessel is 19.60 meters.  During usage of Torpedo Ladle, vessel got deformed and damaged. Before that department tried to put the Torpedo Ladle in operation by offloading the job to outside agencies, it was not materialised due to the high cost of repair approximately Rs 1.2 crores.

"A dedicated and committed team of RINL made it possible by renovating in the shortest time of 56 days using in-house resources and inherent skills. The employees including with S Eswara Rao, D Trinadha Rao, B Dharma Rao, A Satti Babu, B Appala Raju led by D Devadanam of steel structural shop of engineering shops & foundry (ES&F) have undertaken a critical job of repairing/ renovating a Torpedo Ladle in a shortest time, thereby saving huge amount to the company," the company inform through a press release.
