3 injured in fire at HPCL LPG plant in Unnao

Unnao: Three people were injured in a fire that broke out after a gas tank exploded at an LPG plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) in Unnao on Thursday, officials said. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot from nearby police station areas to put out the fire.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started due to a gas leak and led to the explosion. Efforts are on to plug the gas leak. Thick clouds of smoke were seen billowing out of the plant from a distance of 2-3 km.

People asked to vacate houses in vicinity

Unnao district magistrate and police superintendent have asked people in the vicinity to vacate their houses and move to safer places. As a precautionary measure, trains on way to Kanpur were stopped at Ajgain and Sonik railway stations. Trains to Lucknow, on the other hand, were stopped at Unnao station. Also, all roads leading to the plant have been sealed.

Those injured are getting treatment at the district hospital, Chief Medical Superintendent Mewa Lal said.
