New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited, a Maharatna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Power, said on Tuesday that its 800 MW unit of Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project (DSTPP) in Odisha has become operational after a successful trial operation. In an earlier statement, NTPC had said that the first unit of the 1600-MW DSTPP was expected to start by March this year.
The second unit of this project is under construction. "In line with the Corporate Disclosure requirements, we wish to inform that 800 MW unit of Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project has been added to the installed capacity of NTPC on successful completion of trial operation," the company said in a regulatory filing. "With this, the total installed capacity of NTPC and NTPC group has become 49,695 MW and 58,156 MW, respectively," the power PSU added in the statement.
During the current financial year, the company has installed a total of 3,030 MW capacity at five different locations. With a vision to be the world's leading power producer energising India's growth, NTPC aims to achieve a total installed capacity of 130 GW by 2032. NTPC Limited currently operates 55 power stations (24 coal, 7 combined cycle gas/liquid fuel, 2 hydro, 1 wind and 11 solar projects) and has 10 coal and one gas station, owned by joint ventures or subsidiaries and 11 renewable energy projects.
Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (DSTPP) of NTPC Limited is located at Darlipali village in Sundargarh district in Odisha. The total capacity of this plant is 1600-MW. The power plant is one of the coal-based power plants of NTPC Limited. For this plant, coal will be obtained from Dulanga and Pakri Barwadih coal block and water supply will be sourced from the Hirakund Reservoir on the Mahanadi River through a pipeline at over a distance of about 30.0 km from the project site. The plant is under construction by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and L&T Power.
