New Delhi: At a review meeting with the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Ashutosh Jindal, state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) have assured that there is sufficient LPG availability ahead of the festive season.

'LPG shortage in some pockets due to local issues'

The ministry said in a tweet on Wednesday, "OMC's have intimated that there is sufficient LPG availability in the country and there has been a shortage in some pockets due to local issues and exceptionally high demand. OMCs are taking all steps, including extra shifts at bottling plants, to clear the backlog."

The backdrop

The meeting with the three OMCs — Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) — was a "routine meeting" held to review the position of LPG availability across the country, with a view to ensure adequate supplies to customers on the eve of Diwali and Chhat Pooja, especially in Bihar, a source at one of the state-refiners said.
